Staff Infections

October 2016

posted on 10/2016   By: Jeremy Morse

It’s October, which is sort of the calm before the storm. Come November, it’ll be time to choose which shithead we want running this friggin’ country, we’ll have to start getting serious about compiling our best of 2016 lists, because nobody waits until the year is actually over to do that anymore, Thanksgiving will herald the start of the holiday shopping season shit-show, the weather will turn cold, and we can look forward to six months of miserable darkness. For now, though, let’s just kick back and enjoy some autumn jams. Opeth’s latest, Sorceress, took the top spot in staff playlists this month, and, well, doesn’t that suit the season just fine. Let’s have a listen to Opeth while you share your playlists in the comments.

Yeah, I couldn’t do it. I haven’t yet in this life been in the mood for prog-rock, which means second place finisher The Devin Townsend Project can take a hike too. Slayer is a band for all seasons, and Reign in Blood just turned thirty. I could tell you how much Reign in Blood means to me, but it would take too many words, and this isn’t the proper forum for it. Suffice it to say, it means a lot to me. Let us not, however, completely forsake the staff playlists, but rather let us shine a light on some of the more metallic runners-up, namely, Spiritus Mortis, and Mithras, each of whom have new records forthcoming in The Year is One and On Strange Loops respectively. Enjoy a sample from each below.
