Staff Infections – December 2018

Here we go, kids. One last time in 2018: let’s see what your pals at last Rites have been listening to. I think there’s still time to get a letter to Santa if anything catches your ear.

Taking first place this month with three appearances is the latest album from Deceased, Ghostly White. That isn’t all that surprising, because Deceased is awesome, and we’re particularly fond of them around here. Zach Duvall can give you a pretty good idea of why we love Deceased with his recent review.

Second place is a tie between two self-titled doom albums from Musta Risti and Pale Divine. El Capitan can fill you in on Pale Divine right here. We haven’t reviewed Musta Risti, but you can enjoy a gloriously goofy video sample below.

Since it’s list season and we’re wrapping up 2018, I thought I’d tally the last year’s worth of Staff Infections and see which album had the most appearances. I’ll be damned if it was my favorite record of the year, (and number 5 on our Best of 2018 – Combined Staff List) Visigoth’s Conqueror’s Oath. I could gush about how much I love this album, but Cap can do it better with his review.

Second place for the year was Cruel Magic (#12 on the staff list), from the unstoppable comeback-kids, Satan. Our dutiful intern Ryan can give you the dope on Cruel Magic with his excellent review. Young Ryan has been doing a bang-up job with the lunch orders lately, and his writing isn’t too shabby either. Mark my words: That kid is going places.

Well, friends, until next month, I hope you all have a smooth ride out of 2018. Whether you celebrate the holidays or not, I hope you’re able to enjoy a few days off, some time with your loved ones, and some extra time to jam some metal. Be sure to share your playlist in the comments and, if you feel like it, let us know which album you think you listened to the most in 2018. Thanks for reading.
