Staff Infections – February 2022

Howdy, friends. Who’s ready for World War Three? Not me; I’m too old for that shit. Furthermore, I’d like to get through this pandemic before we start an international armed conflict. Hopefully this Ukraine situation is just dick waving by the dictator of a floundering former superpower to make himself look tough in the eyes his rivals and supporters. Vlad is a ruthless and brilliant politician, no doubt, but as a steward of Russia’s economy he has proven inept, and he needs to rattle his saber in order to distract from that fact. Anyway, it’s time to see what your pals at Last Rites have been listening to for the past month.

There was not much playlist crossover this month, but some folks were fortunate enough to get promos for the forthcoming Immolation LP Acts of God, and consequently, it is our first-place finisher. Acts of God hits the streets in a little under two weeks, but keep your eyes peeled for a review a lot sooner than that. Second place goes to Miles Davis, by default. Three playlist appearances, albeit with different albums, is good enough this month. Some of the staff professed that they were eager to see what I had to say about old Miles Davis featuring so prominently on what would presumably be a metal-dominated playlist conglomeration, since I’m probably the most miserable, closed-minded old prick on staff, but I don’t even know enough about jazz to talk shit about it. I enjoy some Django Reinhardt now and again, and I bought Kind of Blue, but it went in one ear and out the other. It seems I have yet to acquire a taste for horn solos.

Before I wrap it up, be sure to listen to the staff-curated Spotify playlist below, share your own playlist in the comments, and, since we might be on the brink of World War III, give us your favorite WWIII themed song. Off the top of my head, I’ll go with Carnivore’s “World Wars III & IV”. Until next month, you all take care of yourselves.
