Anal Cunt founder / mainstay Seth Putnam passed away on June 11, 2011, at the age of 43 — the cause of death is reportedly a heart attack. Since founding AC in the late 1980s, Putnam and a rotating case of cohorts created a controversial catalog of noise- and grindcore, most recently releasing Fuckin’ A, a cock-rock influenced album sporting album art borrowed from Motley Crue. Though Anal Cunt is arguably as well known for their song titles and irreverent humor than for their music (or, in their earliest incarnation, their intentional “anti-music”), there’s no doubt they carved their own place in the history of extreme metal.
In addition to Anal Cunt, Putnam participated in a lengthy list of side projects, including, among a dozen others, the acoustic kvlt black metal act Impaled Northern Moonforest and the post-reformation line-up of thrashcore icons Siege. A prolific guest contributor, at various points, Putnam also provided live vocals for Eyehategod and Buzzov-en and appears on Pantera’s The Great Southern Trendkill, as well as appearing on records by Arson Anthem, Napalm Death, Brutal Truth and more.
It’s difficult to pick a “favorite” Anal Cunt tune, so we’ll go with this one, a simple statement of intent from the long-awaited 2011 release of Wearing Out Our Welcome. Behold, “We Are Anal Cunt”:
