Greetings, dear readers, and welcome again to Staff Infections. July is upon us; high summer, and hopefully you have beer to drink, hotdogs to eat, jets to ski, fish to catch, baseball to play, motorcycles to ride, kayaks to paddle and all manner of better things to do than read my ramblings. However, since you’re here, let’s have a look at what the Last Rites staff has been listening to lately.
If you’ve been a reader of our site for a while you might have gleaned that a fair portion of the crew here has a soft spot for Wichita Kansass’s finest epic heavy metal band, Manilla Road. Hence, it comes as no surprise that the group’s latest album, To Kill a King, made a strong showing in the staff playlists. Not least among the staff’s ardent Manilla Road champions is Michael Wuensch, who reviewed To Kill a King this past week. Have yourself a listen to the title track below.
Execration is a Norwegian death metal band that has been steadily making a name for itself over the past decade, and it’s recently released fourth album, Return to the Void is sitting quite well with some of the Last Rites folks, most particularly, Mr. Manuel-O-War, who’s glowing review you can read right here.
Rounding out the common threads in this month’s playlists are Undergang ‘s Misantropologi (Manny’s review here.), Klabautamann’s latest album, Smaragd, on which Danhammer has the goods, and, for some reason, Enslaved’s 2012 record RIITIIR.
