Sometimes the only way to conquer something is by feeding it. Immersing yourself in it, becoming it. Going against what every instinct embedded in your subconscious screams against in protest. Stepping into the fire, you either succumb to it or learn very quickly how to dance around the flames.
People have often noted the irony of listening to and music when they feel depressed, in all actuality, this is no irony at all. Music has a knack for reverberating with emotions, and it’s not some antidote or mood stabilizer—it is a connection. An ability to relate, something all humans crave to some degree or another. Its open interpretation is easily malleable to person experience, be it victory or struggle. It’s this connection that is often the most rewarding aspect of the listening experience, which, in the case of Suspiral, scares the ever-loving shit out of me.
The track closes with a cool down, as carefully crafted feedback echoes through the hollow atmosphere, allowing the subject to reflect on just why they connect with such profound terror. Or why it feels so good to have your deepest fears shadowed in the sound waves that have been manipulated to instill maximum discomfort and anxiety. Step into the flames created by Suspiral, and learn to dance around the terrors and fears that haunt us all, whatever they may be.
