It’s time for Staff Infections, friends. Here’s hoping you Northern hemisphere denizens are finding some time for fun in the summer sun or relief from the oppressive heat, as your local climate dictates. Now let’s see what the Last Rites staff has been listening to while lighting off fireworks and wolfing down hot dogs.
The playlists this month feature no clear favorite. Instead, we have a three-way tie for first place, including the just-released Vortex from Canadian trad / speed metal stalwarts Metalian, the still relatively fresh New Organon from staff favorite The Lord Weird Slough Feg and Far from Italian symphonic / whateverthefuck outfit Stormlord. El Capitan has the scoop on both Vortex and New Organon. As for Far, we missed that one. We missed some other stuff too, but in attempt to rectify such oversights, we played a bit of catch-up over the past week with a three-part series entitled Missing Pieces 2019: The Best Of What We’ve Missed So Far. You can check out all three parts here, here and here.
About now I would normally be telling you to check out some samples of our albums of the month via some embedded Bandcamp or Youtube videos. This month, however, we are leaping into the future (or maybe just the present) with a Spotify playlist curated by the Last Rites staff, and spearheaded by your pal and mine, Andy Almonds. The playlist includes tracks from our albums of the month (except for Vortex, which is as of yet unavailable), as well as songs culled from individual staff playlists. There’s no guarantee you’ll ever be as cool as us folks here at Last Rites, but listening to some of the same music we do will probably make you at least a little bit cooler. Have a great month, and be sure to share your playlist in the comments.
