Alright, kids, it’s June, the weather is good, and I’m taking my niece and nephew to play mini-golf. I love you guys, but I’ve got better shit to do, so I’m keeping this brief. It’s time for Staff Infections, the concept of which is we, your Last Rites pals, think so highly of our own musical taste that we have to tell you what we’ve been listening to every month. If you could all pretend to be awed, it would help keep our inflated but fragile egos intact.
So, what have we been listening to? Well, for starters, Captain and Manny have donned their prog nerd caps or fedoras or berets or whatever the fuck prog nerds wear, and have made a hard push for King Crimson and The Chronicles of Father Robin, respectively, but with no back up for either, it’s all for naught. I’d say it’s a sad day in Nerdville, but the album of the month is folk metal, so surely that’s some consolation. Before we get to that, however, Ryan and Spencer have united in the name of blood-spattered brutality to give Exhumed’s classic debut Gore Metal a second-place finish. The big winner, as has been alluded to, is French blackened folk metal duo, Moisson Livide, with its first full-length release Sent Empèri Gascon. For a spirited review, Dan the man has you covered right here.
For our group discussion this month, in honor of our winner, give us your favorite folk metal album in the comments. While you’re at it, share your own playlist, and have a listen to the staff-curated Spotify playlist below. You all get outside and have some fun. I’ll see you next month.
