Too often, good bands doing the intentionally old school thing go unnoticed because, by design, they don’t exactly stand out. Fans and writers looking for The Next Big Thing might pass quickly if some original trait doesn’t hook them immediately. With this in mind, and in the interest of maybe giving Germany’s Slaughterday the attention they deserve for quality debut Nightmare Vortex, the rest of this review will come in the form of reworked lyrics from Elton John’s 1973 classic “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting.” Open that song in another browser tab, hit play, and sing along with these words. Then send me hate mail.
Enjoy.

If you need some death that’ll take your breath
But you’re weary of the modern way
Take on a cross section of the old infection
And pump your skull with Slaughterday
While Stockholm and Dismember form a backbone to remember
There’s plenty of down tempo too
Asphyx and Bolt Thrower rear their ugly heads
And get you ripped on one mean brew
Chorus:
Don’t give us none of your self-indulgence
We’ve had it with your wankery
‘Cause Slaughterday writes alright for fighting
Get a little old school in
Revel in the thickness and the bottom end
Speed and mud in equal right
‘Cause Slaughterday writes the spite I like
Slaughterday’s tight alright, alright, alright
[Incomprehensive death gurgles]
Well they go straight down the pit with their death growl grit
To Willets, Akerfeldt, and Swano they commit
On top of groovy, blasty, chuggy fitting fine
The voice of Bernd Reiners when it spews a line
A fusion of some tones that I really like
Is when the Florida sound gets a big time Sunlight spike
Chewy like a newton but sharper than a knife
Giving each and every riff a bottleful of life
Repeat Chorus
Repeat Chorus
