Staff Infections – March 2019

It’s time, once again, for you to marvel at the Last Rites staff’s spectacularly good taste in music. Let’s see what the heck we’ve been listening to this past month.

If you’ve been hanging around Last Rites long enough, you might have gleaned that most of us here are big Candlemass fans. So it should come as no surprise that the band’s latest release, The Door to Doom, has been getting a fair bit of attention around here. In fact, Captain gave it a whole lot of attention, with his review/history lesson, which you can read right here. What might come as a surprise is that sharing first place this month with Candlemass is Warmoon Lord and their (his) debut album, Burning Banners of the Funereal War. Who the heck is Warmoon Lord? A quick trip to Metal Archives tells me Warmoon Lord is a Finnish black metal band. Let us have a listen to a sample from both Warmoon Lord and Candlemass.

Second place this month is shared by Japanese experimental rock group (at least that’s what Allmusic calls them) Mono and American progressive metal group Queensrÿche, with the albums Nowhere Now Here and The Verdict, respectively. Mono is, perhaps, a bit outside our purview, but Queensrÿche is right in the old wheelhouse, so a verdict on The Verdict might be forthcoming.

That’s all for now, folks. Be sure to share your playlist in the comments, and until next month, take care of yourselves and thank your lucky stars that you don’t live in Venezuela. If you do happen to live in Venezuela, here’s hoping there is, at the very least, a stable food supply in your very near future.
