Staff Infections – November 2025

Howdy, friends. It’s time for the final edition of Staff Infections for 2025. I know it’s only November, but to avoid contributing to list-overload come the year’s end, we cut Staff Infections off a month early. It’s been a Hell of a year, and I don’t mean that in a good way. On top of losing Ozzy and Tompa, and potentially democracy, we recently lost Ace Frehley. I was a bit too young to appreciate Kiss in their heyday, or maybe just more concerned with Star Wars. However, as I got more into heavy metal and guitar later, I learned that a whole bunch of my heroes were inspired to pick up a guitar by none other than Ace Frehley, and I eventually became a bit of a fan myself. Ace had a rough battle with the bottle, but he eventually won, and I’m glad he was able to resume his music career, with Kiss for a while, and solo for many years. Seventy-Four seems young to go these days, but I take comfort in the fact that Ace was able to make and perform music until the end of his life. Rest in peace, Spaceman.

Now let’s see what we’ve been listening to. Our runners-up this month are everyone’s favorite Swiss technical thrash band Coroner, with their recent comeback album Dissonance Theory, and multinational black metal band Sleepwalker, with РЛБ30011922. Is that the album’s SKU, perhaps? Our final album of the month is new-old-school death metal group Glorious Depravity with its second album, Death Never Sleeps. This type of death also never gets old. You can read a review by Mr. Hams right here.

That’s going to just about do it for the month and the year. But before you go, take some time to listen to the staff-curated Spotify playlist below, and share your own playlist in the comments. Also, for our group discussion, give us your favorite Ace Frehley song—Kiss or solo—and three of your favorite old-school death metal albums. For the sake of argument, the old-school cut-off is 1995. My favorite Ace song is “Cold Gin”, and three of my favorite OSDM albums are Grave – Into the Grave, Morbid Angel – Blessed are the Sick, and Immolation – Dawn of Possession. I hope you all have a good holiday season, and a happy new year. See you all again in January.
