Greetings, dear readers. Here’s hoping you and yours are safe and sound after the storms that have whipped through a fair portion of the country in the past week or so. However, if you’re huddled under a blanket, in a cold, dark home, gnawing on stale bread, and using your last bit of phone charge to read Last Rites, well, friend, thanks for the support, but it’s a Sunday, and all we have for you is Staff Infections. Hopefully seeing what the fine folks at Last Rites have been listening to will warm your heart, if not your feet.
As is quite common we have a tie for album of the month. Despite Ryan’s best efforts, neither album is a Black Sabbath album. We’ll try to do better next month, Ryan. Instead, our albums of the month include, not surprisingly, the latest album form Enslaved, Heimdal, and, somewhat surprisingly, Yantra Creating, the fourth album from relatively obscure Russian brutal death metal band 7H. Target. Mr. Duvall has a review of Heimdal you can check out right here. You’re on your own for Yantra Creating, but a cursory listen leaves yours truly with the impression of a refined, focused sort of brutality.
Before we wrap this up, have a listen to the Spotify playlist below, which features a selection of tunes form this month’s staff playlists, and, while your listening, share your own playlist in the comments. Finally, for the group discussion this month, give us four of your favorite guitar players, two from within the metal genre and two from without. For my part, I’d have to go with Randy Rhoads and Bill Steer for metal and Jimi Hendrix and Gary Moore for non-metal. See you all next month.

I’d have to go with Tipton/Downing for a guitar duo rather than one standout player although Matt Pike would also be a pick for favorite metal guitarist. Philippe Tougas is someone I’ve followed more recently. Looking forward to the new Voidceremony, the single is so sick.
For non-metal, hmm can Ritchie Blackmore count?
Crew – are you planning to review the latest katatonia? Always thought of katatonia as having “house band” status around here…and really enjoyed the Jonas interview during the amazing Essentials run.
I’ve been listening to that (I think it’s great in front half), enslaved, (coincidentally) time waits for no slave, epitaph, and 40 watt sun. Cheers!
